چکیده

Cement manufacture has undergone extensive change in its attempts to rise to the successive challenges posed by society. The hydration of Portland cement is a complex phenomenon that depends on both reagent characteristics and reaction conditions. It is a well-known fact that the curing temperature plays an important role on the hydration kinetics. The present study is the first to be undertaken on the effect of curing temperature on white Portland cement paste hydration over long hydration times (365 days at 20oC and 124 days at 60 oC). The technique used, Si and Al NMR spectroscopy, is particularly well adapted to the study of cement hydration. White cement hydration generates a C-S-H gel in which the aluminium taken up forms bridge bonds. After nine days at 60 oC, the degree of reaction expressed in terms of the Al(IV)/Al(VI) ratio nearly doubles the value found after 90 days at 20 oC.

Effect of hydration temperature on the solubility behavior of Ca-, S-, Al-, and Si-bearing solid phases in Portland cement pastes

The concentrations of Ca, S, Al, Si, Na, and K in the pore solutions of ordinary Portland cement and white Portland cement pastes were measured during the first 28 d of curing at temperatures ranging from 5–50 jC. Saturation indices with respect to solid phases known to form in cement paste were calculated from a thermodynamic analysis of the elemental concentrations. Calculated saturation leve...

The Effect of Curing Temperature on the Properties of Cement Pastes Modified with TiO2 Nanoparticles

This paper investigates the effect of curing temperature on the hydration, microstructure, compressive strength, and transport of cement pastes modified with TiO₂ nanoparticles. These characteristics of cement pastes were studied using non-evaporable water content measurement, X-ray diffraction (XRD), compressive strength test, electrical resistivity and porosity measurements, and scanning elec...

Hydration kinetics modeling of Portland cement considering the effects of curing temperature and applied pressure

a r t i c l e i n f o A hydration kinetics model for Portland cement is formulated based on thermodynamics of multiphase porous media. The mechanism of cement hydration is discussed based on literature review. The model is then developed considering the effects of chemical composition and fineness of cement, water–cement ratio, curing temperature and applied pressure. The ultimate degree of hyd...

Internal Curing of High-Performance Blended Cement Mortars:

In the twenty-first century, most high-performance concretes, and many other ordinary concretes, are now based on blended cements that contain silica fume, slag, and/or fly ash additions. Because the chemical shrinkage accompanying the pozzolanic and hydraulic reactions of these mineral admixtures is generally much greater than that accompanying conventional portland cement hydration, these ble...

Numerical simulation of heat and mass transport during hydration of Portland cement mortar in semi-adiabatic and steam curing conditions.

A model that describes hydration and heat-mass transport in Portland cement mortar during steam curing was developed. The hydration reactions are described by a maturity function that uses the equivalent age concept, coupled to a heat and mass balance. The thermal conductivity and specific heat of mortar with water-to-cement mass ratio of 0.30 was measured during hydration, using the Transient ...
